In Loving Memory Charles Steven New August 10, 1953 - March 31, 2021 Charles Steven New was born on August 10, 1953 at Fort Polk, LA and left this life peacefully on March 31, 2021 at the Saad Hospice Retreat in Mobile, AL. Steve was preceded in death by his father Lt. Col. Guy E. New. He is survived by his mother, Alice L. New of Swansea, IL; wife, Wanda W. New of Daphne, AL; daughter, Allie New of Honolulu, HI; brothers, Guy New (Terrie) of Universal City, TX and Mike New (Kathy) seafaring with port of call in St. James City, FL; sister, Jacque New Loesche (Bart Bergkoetter) of Swansea, IL; and his adoring pups Teddy and Trixie. Steve graduated from Belleville Township High School West, Belleville, IL in 1971. Following in his father's footsteps, he decided to serve his country and was awarded an ROTC scholarship while at McNeese State University, Lake Charles, LA where he graduated in 1976. Steve entered the U.S. Army after graduation as a commissioned officer and served honorably until 1980, having achieved the rank of Captain. After serving in the U.S. Army, Steve continued with coursework at Louisiana State University. While in Baton Rouge, he met and married Wanda Woodward in 1982. Steve then pursued a successful career in outside sales in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. In 2005, he attended The Department of Homeland Security U.S. Customs and Border Protection Field Operations Academy. After graduation he became a Federal Officer working as an Agriculture Specialist at the Port of Mobile, AL until his passing. Steve had a green thumb and loved to work in his yard and garden. He enjoyed walks in the woods, especially with his dogs. An early riser, he often sat on the porch with a cup of coffee listening to the birds. An avid reader, he enjoyed military strategy novels and books, as well as strategy games. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Saad Hospice Care Fund of Mobile, 1515 S. Burial with military honors will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO at a future date.
