Charles H. Livaudais (“Charlie”), age 82, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and a resident of Point Clear, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on October 10, 2019. Charlie was born on March 25, 1937 in New Orleans, Louisiana to his loving parents, Oliver S. Livaudais, Jr. and Isabella Hughes Livaudais. After graduating from Jesuit High School in New Orleans, he attended Spring Hill College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in History in 1959, followed by a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Tulane Law School in 1962. While at Spring Hill College, Charlie met Eleanor Ford who would become his wife in 1962, following her graduation from Spring Hill College and his graduation from Tulane Law School. Charlie and Eleanor then moved to Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Indiana, where Charlie served in the Army as a member of the JAG Corps and reached the position of First Lieutenant, and their first child, Charles H. Livaudais, Jr. was born. After two years of Army service in Indianapolis, Charlie, Eleanor, and Charles Jr. returned to Louisiana where Charlie pursued his law career in practice at Livaudais Law Office and as First Assistant District Attorney in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. Charlie and Eleanor were blessed with three more children, Kathleen, Laura, and Paul. Charlie and family loved spending summers and holidays on Mobile Bay in Fairhope and Point Clear, Alabama. After a successful career in law, Charlie retired from the law practice, and in 1989, he, Eleanor, and Paul moved permanently to their home on Mobile Bay in Point Clear, Alabama. Charlie’s passions were his love of God and his Catholic faith and his love for his family. Charlie enjoyed attending daily Mass, praying the Rosary, and attending Bible studies. Charlie’s love for his family was limitless, and he cherished every moment he spent with his Eleanor, his children, and his six grandchildren. Charlie was an avid sailor and trumpet player. He was a member of Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans, and later, a member of Fairhope Yacht Club. Preferring racing to pleasure-cruising, he earned countless trophies over years of sailboat racing. Charlie began his musical career early, having learned to play trumpet as a young child. He pursued his love of music in college, during which time he was a member of several bands, including Charlie and the Playboys and the Montclairs. In later years, he was a founding member of The Baldwin POPS, and enjoyed playing in other local bands in town, including the Yacht Club band, and the Ted and Charlie Duo. The only thing Charlie loved more than sailing or music was his family, to whom he was fiercely devoted. Charles is survived by his wife, Eleanor F. Livaudais; three of his children, Charles H. Livaudais, Jr, (daughter-in-law, Jean Marie) (grandchildren, Benjamin and Laura); Kathleen Livaudais Simoneaux (son-in-law, Keith) (grandchildren, Caroline and Keller); and Laura Livaudais (Robert Ward) (grandchildren, Evelyn Adaire and Eleanor Lillie); his sister, Isabella de la Houssaye and brother-in-law, Dr. Benton Cason de la Houssaye (nieces and nephew, Isabella de la Houssaye (Crane), Nadia de la Houssaye, Benton de la Houssaye, and Elise Frantzen); sister-in-law, Julie Ford; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Charla Ford (nieces, Leigh Friedel and Faith Lozano). He is preceded in death by his son, Paul F. Livaudais: his parents, Oliver S. Livaudais, Jr, and Isabella H. Livaudais; and his brother, Oliver S. Livaudais III. Charlie was a devout member of St Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope, AL.
