Charles Price Cort, of Spanish Fort, Alabama, died at the age 61 from pulmonary fibrosis on October 27, 2022. Charles was born in Summit, NJ and then spent time in Marietta, GA before moving to Mountain Brook, AL in elementary school. From this point on he would call Alabama home except for a brief college stint in beautiful Arkansas. He attended Mountain Brook High School and then graduated from Hendrix College. From there he taught US history, first in Bessemer at Davis Middle and then at Mountain Brook High and Hewitt-Trussville, where he also coached boys soccer. A few years were then spent in Huntsville before the family relocated to Spanish Fort in 2005. He had an eclectic array of interests: music, art, his homegrown satsumas, and really just about anything, as you never knew just where a lively conversation with him might go. But his real joy and meaning in life came from the people he met and the friendships he formed, as he truly never met a stranger. The small details about a person’s life story he wouldn’t ever forget, maybe it was what high school you went to or how he had found out he was related to you by discovering that your great-great-great grandfather was actually the governor of Virginia in 1793 and was a brother in law to one of his great-great-great aunt’s brother. You could go to any corner of this state and he would have some anecdote or story about it, a true Alabamian through and through. He was a follower of Christ, a loving husband and father, and a good friend to all who knew him. Everyone has their own story about Charles and it’s impossible to put them all into words. But there is a universal memory that will be understood by all who knew him. And that memory was a feeling, a feeling when you saw him recognize you, smile, and walk over to talk. And through that memory, the feeling of love will remain forever. He joins his parents Hugh (Jr.) and Violet and his brother Hugh (III) in Heaven. He is survived by his wife Nikki, his children Keegan, Kaylee, Caroline, and Belle, and his sister Meredith (Jones). The funeral service will be held at Spanish Fort United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 5th at 1 PM with reception to follow. All are welcome.
