Charles Hall Byrne Jr, "Charlie", 73, of Foley passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2024.
Charlie graduated from Foley High School in 1968. He then attended Marion Military Institute in Troy Alabama. From there, he joined the United States Marine Corps and attended Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia. Charlie served our country as a pilot until 1976 then he returned home to Alabama and attended the University of South Alabama. He earned his Civil Engineering degree with Professional Engineer credentials and worked in multiple roles in the Baldwin County area before making his way to Naval Air Station Pensacola. Charlie served the Naval Air Station for the remainder of his career until he retired in 2007.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sr. and Winifred Byrne and his sister, Rebecca "Becky" Byrne.
He is survived by the love of his life, Sue Byrne of Foley, brother Thomas "Tom" Byrne (Donna) of Evergreen AL, children: Winifred "Wendy" Ahrenkiel of Atlanta, Kristy (Albie) Whitaker of Fairhope, Leigh (Rick) Dionisio of Foley and Jill Glenn of Pensacola, 6 grandchildren: Byrne and Porter Ahrenkiel, Grey and Birch Whitaker, Gavin Dionisio and Connor Manning as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will take place at Wolfe Bayview funeral home in Foley on Thursday February 22. 2024. Visitation will be from 10-11AM with funeral services from 11-12pm. Pastor Jason Harvel will be officiating. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 10:00 am.
