Carol Joly Williamson
December 12, 1943 – December 14, 2021
Carol was born in New Orleans to John L. Joly, Jr. and Hattie Mae Badeaux Joly. She attended schools in New Orleans and graduated from the Academy of Holy Angels. Carol was an outstanding swimmer and while in High School taught in a Red Cross Water Safety program at Tulane University. She met the love of her life, Jerry Williamson, while working at Sears in New Orleans and they were married on April 14, 1962. Carol and Jerry had four sons, Douglas (Sheila), Ian (Christie), Adam (Kelly), and Matthew, seven grandchildren (Caleb, Kyle, Gabrielle, Angelina, Warner, Andrew, and Emma), and a great granddaughter (Violet). Carol was predeceased by her parents, a sister (Julie Ann), and a brother (John). She is survived by her husband, her sister (Janis Joly Weber), and her brother (Jared).
Carol and Jerry resided in the Mobile area for over 45 years. Carol graduated from the University of South Alabama College of Nursing, where she also obtained a Master’s Degree in Nursing. While there, she was awarded a Fuld Fellowship, in connection with which she travelled to Vienna, Austria. She subsequently worked in several hospitals in the Mobile area and taught Nursing at Louisiana State University, University of South Alabama, and Coastal Alabama Community College. Her last employment was with Saad Healthcare as Director of the Hospice Program.
Carol and Jerry were married almost 60 years, and spent their retirement years traveling much of the world together. She enjoyed travelling, spending time in New Orleans, playing Bridge with her friends, and was quite famous for cooking traditional Louisiana dishes, including shrimp etouffee, and red beans and rice.
A graveside service will be held at the Alabama Veteran’s Cemetery on December 20, 2021 at 11:00 am. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Willowbrooke Court at Westminster Village and Community Hospice for their care and kindness during the last several months. In lieu of flowers, any donations are requested to be made to St. Jude Hospital.
