Pass Christian, MS. - Captain Charles Leonard Robertson, Jr., U.S. Navy (retired) – beloved father, grandfather, brother, naval officer, community leader, educator, and friend – passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022. He was an inspiring role model. His family and friends sincerely miss him and his always cheerful smile. Born February 25, 1939, Charles was born in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was the only son of Dollie and Charles Robertson Sr. During high school he was part of the JROTC and Civil Air Patrol which put him on the path for flight school. After graduating from East Jefferson High School in 1956, Charles attended Mississippi State University where he completed a Bachelor’s in Production Control Management. During one of his visits to Jackson, Mississippi to help a friend he was introduced to Lynda Carolyn Perkins from Hermanville, Mississippi. Charles and Lynda were married at Vanwinkle UMC in Jackson, Mississippi on August 19, 1961. They went on to share a wonderful marriage that lasted over 60 years. Charles joined the Navy as a commissioned officer (Ensign) after his college graduation. He immediately went to Pensacola for flight school and officer training where he was commissioned as a Lieutenant, Junior Grade. Charles then attended the U.S. Naval Post-Graduate school in Monterey, California where he received his master’s in Computer Science. After his service in the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Annapolis, Maryland where he taught Math at the Naval Academy. These decisions symbolized his life as an intellectually curious man who had the mind of an engineer and the heart to serve others. He is a veteran who served in the Vietnam War and received the Vietnam Service Medal. He retired from active-duty service on January 7, 1971 but continued in the naval reserves for a cumulative service of 28 years retiring as a Naval Captain. Charles held a wide range of professional positions working for many government contractors. He was an avid hunter, long-time devoted Saints / Mississippi State fan and devout Christian. In 1992 the Robertson’s elected to spend their remaining days in Pass Christian, Mississippi (30 years). Charles leaves behind his wife Lynda Carolyn Robertson, his five children, Laurie Robertson of Pensacola, FL., Amy Browning (Scott A.) of Theodore, AL., Carolyn Carr (TJ) of Mathiston, MS., Holly Reed (Eric) of Fernandina Beach, FL., Jennifer Strickland (Alvin) of Moss Bluff, LA. and his twelve grandchildren. After 82 adventurous years, Charles will be buried with full military honors at a private interment with immediate family only at Biloxi National Cemetery.
