Bobby Joe Stewart

Bobby “Big” Joe Stewart, 77, died June 13, 2019 at his home in Fairhope, Alabama after battling cancer. His funeral service will be held this Saturday at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, 27409 US Hwy 98 Daphne, Alabama 36526, at 2:00 pm, with a visitation from 1:00 pm until time of the service. The service will be followed by a reception at Rock Creek Golf Club 140 Clubhouse Drive, Fairhope, AL 36532. Joe was born on the 1st of September, 1941 in Meridian to parents, Lucile and John Stewart.  He joined the Navy after graduating Meridian High School and was offered OTC but declined. He spent two years aboard the USS Ranger CVA61 Aircraft Carrier. In 1961, he married Lynn Pylate, his high school sweetheart. They were happily married for 57 years and raised 3 children.  Joe pursued a career in the life insurance business and became the youngest manager in the history of Met Life at age 22. Among his achievements during his 37 year career at Met Life, he made the Million Dollar Round Table, was the President of Miss ALU and man of the year. He retired at age 57 as a Regional Vice President over 400 agents in Mississippi and Alabama. Joe also served as a Director of the Royal Order of Jesters and was a member of the Hamasa Shrine Temple.  His favorite pastimes were playing golf (he shot a score of 70 at age 70), and traveling with Lynn to events and places around the country and the world.He is survived by his wife Lynn and his 3 children, Steve (wife Kimberly), Susan (husband Brad), and Scott (wife Carrie). Also by 5 grandchildren Steven Stewart (wife Kenna), Stewart Thrash (wife Scottie), Joseph Thrash, Brett Stewart, and Gracelyn Thrash. Also by Mary Stewart Aycock (sister), Jim Stewart (brother), and Charles Stewart (brother). He was predeceased by Lucile Dickson Stewart (mother), John Wesley Stewart Sr (father), and John Wesley Stewart Jr (brother).
