Bobby Gene Dawson died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024, in his home, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on June 12, 1942, in Foley, Ala., he was a graduate of Foley High School and the University of South Alabama. He played football for Foley High School as a tight end under the direction of Coach Ivan Jones. He served in the United States Air Force from 1960-1966 and was stationed in Greenland. Bobby spent his professional career as a comptroller and accountant. He worked for multiple local businesses including Claprood and E-J Builders.
As an avid University of Alabama fan, Bobby loved college football, working outdoors, golfing, eating ice cream when banana pudding wasn’t available, and making people laugh.
Bobby was wholeheartedly devoted to his family. He served as the caretaker, leader, enthusiastic supporter, guardian, protector and hero for his wife, daughter, son and grandchildren. He never met a stranger, loved cracking a good joke, and brightened the world with his smile. Bobby had a very strong faith in God and he and his late wife, Carol, were involved in the Christian church for their entire adult lives. To say he will be missed is a drastically inadequate expression of the void he leaves behind.
He is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Carol Dawson, his mother Annie Mae Dawson, father Steven Frank Dawson, brother Jack Dawson, and sister Dorsey Mae Dawson White. He is survived by his daughter Kimberly Dawson, son Kevin Dawson, granddaughter Lauren (Barin) von Foregger, grandson Trey (Claire) Cook, great-grandsons Gavin and Garrison von Foregger, great-granddaughter Olivia Cook; siblings Steve (Elizabeth) Dawson, Grace (Aubrey) Davis, Shirley Poiroux, Joyce (Terry) Rudberg, Howard (JaNay) Dawson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Foley, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. The church is located at 915 N. Pine Street in Foley.
