Betty Morgan Vance

Betty Morgan Vance passed away in her home on Sept. 4, 2017 at the age of 89. She had been a resident of Fairhope, Alabama since the fall of 1955. She was an avid bowler and golfer and won tournaments in both. She held several clerical positions throughout the local communities during her working years. In her later years, Betty and her companion, Hal Biering, received many awards for their volunteer work, restoring light houses in Maine and along the east coast of Canada. Their passion for volunteering also benefitted Fairhope; picnic tables, a new gate house, and bird houses at the Fairhope Municipal Pier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Edward Speer; her daughter, Yvonne Speer Hoover; and being the youngest of 6 siblings, her four brothers, Charles “Jay”, Donald, Richard, and James Morgan; and her sister, Laura Woosley. She is survived by her companion, Hal Biering of Fairhope; her daughter, Teresa (Terri) Speer of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada; 3 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held Monday, September 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until funeral service.
