Bernard Aloysius Fogarty, Jr., age 73, resident of Fairhope, passed away on April 12, 2021.

Bernie was born on March 30, 1948 to the late Bernard A. and Mary Margaret (nee Doyle) Fogarty, Sr. in Mobile, AL. As a child he attended school at St. Thomas in Chickasaw and St. Pius X in Mobile. He graduated from McGill Institute for Boys in 1966. After high school, Bernie served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. On October 10, 1970, he married Rose Marie Marston. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of South Alabama and began his more 35 year career at Alabama Power Company. He served as External Affairs Manager for more than 30 years, representing not only the company, but also the city and state by serving as chair on charity campaigns, welcoming dignitaries, planning city-wide events, participating in goodwill events with sister cities, and promoting conservation efforts. He retired in 2011 in order to pursue his interests in gardening, birding, and travel. He served as President of Baldwin County Master Gardeners until he became sick. He enjoyed visiting Europe with his wife and friends, especially Scotland and Ireland. Bernie was a lifelong Catholic and belonged to St. Lawrence Catholic Church for over 25 years. He enjoyed the love and company of his large family and many friends, especially his wife, children, and the seven people who called him Papa B.

Bernie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rose Marston; children, Emily Fogarty Mangual (Juan), B.A. Fogarty, III (Gayle); grandchildren, Mary, Natalie, Julia, John, and Katherine Mangual, Jackson and Griffin Fogarty. The oldest child of Bernard and Mary Doyle Fogarty, he is also survived by brothers, Frank Fogarty (C), Pat Fogarty (Jane), Chris Fogarty (Lyn); sisters, Mady Allman (Rusty), Melissa Leatherbury (Tom), Theresa Wittendorfer (Greg), Clare Fogarty and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 11:00am at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with visitation taking place before Mass in the St. Lawrence Room beginning at 10:00am.

In lieu of flowers, Bernie’s family suggests donations be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church, www.stlawrencefairhope.com, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org in gratitude for the research that cured his granddaughter Julia’s cancer in 2008.
