They were married during a memorable blizzard at St. Mary’s Church in Saginaw and honeymooned at Niagara Falls in January. In addition to being the loving mother of seven children held several positions including her initial job as a bank teller which she loved to remind us that the women got paid less than the men doing the same job. She also volunteered at many different thrift stores, one of her favorite jobs. She loved to play rummy with her children and grandchildren and was a marvel at keeping everyone’s names, birthdays, and life events straight. She also helped with the bereavement group at Christ the King, often making her favorite dish the highly acclaimed lemon bars. Every summer the Reid family, all nine of them, would tent or trailer camp in the woods of Michigan and she made it all such a wonderful time, introducing the family to the joys of nature and all the wonderful lakes of the area. This was a continuation of her own splendid summers spent at her family’s cottage in Linwood, Michigan. Bernadette will be warmly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her. Her love, compassion, and unwavering spirit will continue to guide and inspire her family for generations to come.
