Barbara Jean Parker

Barbara Jean Parker, born on September 22, 1936, a native of Bessemer, Alabama and a 70-year resident of Bon Secour AL passed away November 7, 2024 at the age of 88.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jimmy who passed away last year after a marriage lasting more than 69 years. They were known throughout the community for their enduring love for each other. 

Her love for Jesus and her church shined brightly in her life. She spent many years teaching Sunday school & Bible school to children, sharing God’s word. Her passion was packing shoe boxes for Samaritans Purse and sharing the gospel with children all over the world. 

She is survived by her brother John C. Vail and seven children: David (Ellen) of Jasper, GA; Eddie (Carolyn) of Purvis, MS; Kaye Arata (Joey) of Clermont, FL; Johnny (Laura) of Greensboro, NC; Lynn of Spanish Fort, AL; Sue Raley (Scott) of Gulf Shores, AL; and Lisa Falls (Chuck) of Summerdale, AL.  

Her love for children was evident in everything she did and everyone she touched. She is survived by 10 grandchildren: Chris, Michael, Amanda Wood, Heather, Sarah Riley, Matthew, Dawn Quinn, Brad Raley, Bryan Raley, and Anna Loveday. Eleven great-grandchildren: Ellie, Kate, Ryan, Ty, Sloane Wood, Nora Wood, Hailey Quinn, Aiden Quinn, Abigail Raley, Parker Raley, Preston Raley and Britleigh. Also, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to so many who will miss the Nanny hugs the most.

The family wishes a warm thank you of gratitude to Gentiva hospice especially Julia and Angela. 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 12th at 10:00 a.m. at Oyster Bay Baptist Church followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse Ministry or Youth-Reach Gulf Coast.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandson-in-laws.
