It hurts me to admit it, but I, Barbara Andrews Klaas, AKA “Bobbie” or “Robert”, have left the building. That is right, my curtain call came on the Friday morning of July 17, 2020. After being bullied by Dementia, Covid-19 came along and released me into the cosmos where I have been reunited with loved ones and my obnoxious poodle Boudreaux. Yes this may sound morbid, but let’s face it this is my obituary and I want all of you wonderful people to know that my soul is shining. I am not dead; I am alive! I was born the oldest daughter of the late Vernon E. and Mary Jane Andrews of Daphne, Alabama. I have two brothers, Vernon Andrews Jr. (Butch), Stephen Greg Andrews, and one sister Beverly Andrews Thompson. On January 31, 1967 I married Patrick Martin Klaas, my main squeeze of 54 years. You are my king bee baby! As an undergraduate, I attended Mississippi State College for Women and earned a Master's degree in early childhood education from Troy State University. I devoted most of my life to educating children in the Daphne public school system. I loved all of my students, even the one who stole my car. I loved live music. I got a t-shirt signed by Graham Nash, caught the drum sticks from Willie Nelson’s drummer, had my chest autographed by Delbert McClinton, and slightly stalked the Rolling Stones on numerous tours. I have a tattoo. I loved jokes, especially when my children would go in the store and I would hide the car way out in the parking lot so they thought I left them. My first time deer hunting, I shot an 8 point white-tailed buck. My family worshiped my culinary skills especially when I served creamed chipped beef on toast and rock hard pot roast. My spirit will be carried on by my three amazing girls, Molly, Melanie, Lurah and my two grandchildren Hannah and Jack. Lots of hugs and kisses to all of you. At some point in the future when it’s safe to get together, there will be a Barbara Dance Party - Celebration of Life, and my ashes will be removed from that tacky urn that my family pulled off the shelf. Please don’t spend your hard earned money on flowers, but if you feel compelled to donate in my honor please send a donation to SEEDS, Supporting Educational Excellence in Daphne Schools, 7300 Dolphin Street, Daphne AL, 36526, 251-802-5002, https://www.seedsindaphne.com/donate.html To my angels Joyce, Joeanne, Paul, Nadine, Shana, Kim, Keisha, Lisa, Hannah, and Paul Daniel at Oakland Place and my exceptional hospice nurse Jody: I know all of you worked so hard to humor me and comfort me all the way to the rainbow. Life is too short. So let us raise a glass ideally champagne or a stiff Sazerac and celebrate the good times. See y'all at the dance party!
