Barbara Jo Davis

d. November 15, 2021

Barbara Jo McGill Davis passed away peacefully, in her home with family by her side, on Monday, November 15, 2021, at the age of 82.

Barbara was born in Sikeston, Missouri to Wallace and Rose Marie Lewis McGill.

While attending college in Tennessee, Barbara met Jerry Davis, a handsome young naval man, at a Valentine’s Day dance. On April 9, 1960 Barbara and Jerry were married and went on to have a son and daughter. Her children remember her, with pride, as a “stay at home mom” that always made breakfast before school and at home waiting for them each afternoon.

In the years that followed Barbara was active as a volunteer with the auxiliary of Thomas Hospital, served as an elder and choir member at Fairhope Christian Church, and still made time to offer her heart and talent for sewing, needlework and other creative endeavors. Many of the group projects that she participated in produced items, handmade with love, that went to area hospitals and organizations in need.

The overwhelming pride and joy of her life was her family. Baking Snickerdoodles in the kitchen, guiding a beginner in crochet or sewing, and hand-painting Christmas ornaments, are just a few of a vast number of precious memories she created with them all.

Together with her husband of 61 years, Jerry A. Davis, Barbara shared daughter, Carolyn Davis Pernod, and son, Jerry A. (Tricia) Davis, II, 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She also leaves behind her sister, Patsy Boothe, sister-in-law, Corliss Vaughn, and a host of other loving family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Richard McGill, and granddaughter, Rose Pernod.

A memorial service will be held on a later date.
