Barbara "Gwen" Robertson

Barbara “Gwen” Robertson passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday November 3, 2019. She was with her loving husband who refused to leave her side after 54 years of marriage. A wake is scheduled for Thursday November 7, 2019 from 6:00-8:00pm at Wolfe Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope, AL. The Funeral is scheduled for Friday November 8, 2019 at the Fairhope United Methodist Church at 10:30 am. Gwen was born on June 13, 1947 to Bettye Roberts and Hugh Jones in Mobile, AL. As a small child she moved to California where she graduated from Bellflower High School and married her high school sweetheart, James (Jim) Franklin Robertson in 1965. When Jim came back from the Vietnam war, Gwen and Jim brought their life back to Fairhope, Alabama where the young couple would raise their family of four children. Gwen was a devoted mother and wife. She was always volunteering or working at the schools where her children attended. As all four children found interest in the band program, Gwen became increasingly involved in the program. She eventually became the assistant to the band director and head of finance. Gwen and her husband were involved with the band for years after her own children had graduated from the school. Gwen was an avid cook and fed many friends and family members over the years. If you walked through the front door of her home the first words from her would be, “Have you eaten yet?” Gwen also loved culinary adventures, always wanting to try the new restaurant in town, or the new recipe from a cooking show. She was always available for a day trip to New Orleans with her aging mother whom she cared for, if only for a beignet from Café Du Monde. In later years Gwen was diagnosed with breast cancer, twice. She then fought cancer a third time when a tumor was found in her chest; a complication from earlier radiation therapies. Gwen fought and survived cancer three times with a warrior’s spirit. More recently Gwen was diagnosed with dementia that she would not be able to conquer. Gwen is survived by her husband, Jim Robertson; children Wendy Robertson, Shelley Williamson (Kevin), Lindsey Barlow (Rob), and Robby Robertson (Katie); brother, Pierre Vilian; and grandchildren Jack Williamson, Hackett Robertson, Adelaide Robertson, and Harbour Robertson.   ARRANGEMENTS BY WOLFE-BAYVIEW FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATORY, INC. 19698 GREENO RD FAIRHOPE, AL 36532 (251) 990-7775
