Barbara Ann Gabel

Barbara Ann Lazzari Gabel, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 24, 2017. She was born in Belforest to a large Italian farm family. She married Ernest “Buddy” Gabel, Jr in 1953 at Christ the King Catholic Church. It was the beginning of a love affair that lasted 64 years, 6 months, and 18 days. She devoted herself to him and raising a family. As a Christian woman, she expressed her faith through various organizations starting at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She served in various capacities in the Altar Sodality and Mobile Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women. She was instrumental in getting the Baldwin Deanery started and served as its 1st President. She helped promote Right to Life, Archangel Radio, Cancer Society Bossom Buddies, Catholic Charities, Eucharistic Ministries, Christ the King School, Reach to Recovery and St. Michaels Catholic High School. They have six children: Ernest (Elaine) Gabel, Angela (Dan) Crecelius, Steven (Angela) Gabel, Mark (godchild Brenda) Gabel, Ida (Michael) Phillips, and Glen (Samantha) Gabel; nine grandchildren: Julie (Ryan) Gerstenschlager, Christopher (Nicole) Phillips, Martin Gabel, Matt Crecelius, Brain Gabel, Elizabeth Gabel, Sam (Teela) Crecelius, Christine (Mitch) Polen, and Emily Gabel; eight great grandchildren: Andrew, John, Taylor, Morgan, Rylee, Noah, Tanner, and Sawyer; many other loving relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope. A Rosary service will begin at 6:00. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, December 29, 2017 at 10:00a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to funeral service. Interment will follow in Belforest Catholic Cemetery.
