Barbara Ann Douglas died November 5, 2020, at her home in Fairhope, Alabama. Mrs. Douglas was born August 31, 1935, in Gadsden, Alabama. She was a 1959 graduate of Montevallo College. She married Dr. John Boyd Douglas, Sr. of Ellisville, Mississippi in 1960, and they made their first home in Mobile, Alabama, where she taught at Murphy High School and distinguished herself as an avid tennis player and instructor, before moving over the Bay to Daphne. She gained national ranking in tennis through the years and was a loyal long-time teammate for her crew, The Corporation. Mrs. Douglas is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dr. John Boyd Douglas, Sr., her three children: Boyd (Largay) Douglas of, Battles Wharf, Alabama, Michael (Murray) Douglas of Fairhope, Alabama, Brown (Kathryn) Douglas of Oklahoma City, OK; and 10 grandchildren, who affectionately called her Goo Goo. Mrs. Douglas was a fierce competitor in all she did, from water skiing on the Tennessee River as a child, to playing tennis as an adult, to attending events of her children and grandchildren through the years. Goo Goo loved nothing more than to spend time with her family, whether it was simply to enjoy a beautiful sunset over Mobile Bay or to cheer on her grandchildren at their many sporting events. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to their favorite charity.
