Atley (Pops) Davis

Atley Davis, age 87, of Spanish Fort, Alabama, passed away on August 15 at home with family by his side.
Dave or “Pops”, as he was called by family and friends, was born the son of a sharecropper during the Great Depression in Madison County, North Carolina. He moved to Jonesboro, Tennessee at an early age until he joined the military. He spent four years active duty and four years inactive duty in the United States Navy.
Mr. Davis spent seven years (1964-1971) on the Pensacola Police Department, starting in the patrol department before being promoted to the detective division where he worked crimes against persons and then the vice department. He left the police department to join the US Marshals Service in 1971, where he retired from government service in 1991.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Davis; one daughter Cheryl Vehmeier Filichia; and two sons, Larry Wayne Davis(Tammy) of Spanish Fort and Lamar Allen Davis(Stacie) of Daphne; and five grandchildren: Jay David Vehmeier (Rochelle) of Atlanta, Marisa Ann Kent(Ben) of Spanish Fort, and Ella, Anna and Max Davis of Daphne.
Interment will be at The Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spanish Fort on HWY 225. A celebration of life gathering service will be held at a later date.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Fund or a charity of choice.
