Arthur Frederick Lorge, affectionately known as Fred, was born on March 24, 1943, in Mobile, Alabama, and he departed this life on September 29, 2024, in Mobile, surrounded by the warmth of his loving family. He was a dedicated husband father, grandfather, and friend who enriched the lives of all who knew him.

Fred’s career spanned over 28 years with the Mobile Fire Department, dedicating more than 14 years as a paramedic. Throughout his remarkable service, he took pride in the opportunity to deliver 14 babies, a testament to his unwavering commitment to saving lives and supporting families during their most critical moments. His warm heart and quick-thinking nature made him a cherished figure not only among his colleagues but also within the community he served.

A proud U.S. Air Force Veteran, Fred exemplified bravery and honor, reflecting the same resilience that defined his life. He embraced challenges with a steadfast determination, leaving behind a legacy of service and compassion that will forever resonate in the hearts of those he touched.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Mertie Lorge, whose unwavering support stood as a pillar in his life. Together, they cultivated a beautiful family, and Fred leaves behind four devoted children: Janice Haley, Patricia Lorge, Tina Sheetz (Ken), and Vance Maloy (Jenny). His legacy continues through his twenty-one grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, who carry forward the love and lessons imparted by their remarkable patriarch.

In addition to his immediate family, Fred will be remembered fondly by his nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends who appreciated his kindness and generosity. His nurturing spirit and infectious laughter will be sorely missed by all who crossed his path.

Fred joins his parents and eight siblings, along with four of his children—Tommie Lorge, Michael Blaine Lorge, Barbara Lorge, and Karen Lorge—who have gone before him. Though they are separated by time, their memories intertwine with the love and joy he shared with his family.
