Anne Macpherson Prince, 85, died peacefully in her Battles Wharf, Alabama home Thursday, November 2, 2023, surrounded by family. She was born January 27, 1938, in Mobile, Alabama, the oldest of four children to John Ritchie Macpherson and the former Marion Acker. Enrolled in the Mobile City school system, she was a gifted student who was allowed to skip the fifth grade. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1955, and attended Mount Vernon Junior College in Washington, DC, graduating two years later. Returning to Mobile, she took a job with the GM&O Railroad as a secretary for Jack Edwards. When Edwards left GM&O to run for Congress, she played a vital role in his successful campaign. She met and in 1961 married Sydney R. Prince, III in Mobile. She gave birth to three children, Rhodes in 1962; Ritchie in 1965; and Beverly in 1970. She sacrificed the promise of potential career success and embraced her role of wife and mother, devoting her many talents to her family. From early childhood, she spent as much time as possible on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay and developed a love of bay life. After spending the early part of their lives in Mobile, the Princes relocated across the bay, and lived most of their later years at their Battles Wharf home. She enjoyed traveling, but preferred the simple pleasures of home life, including yard work. She was a lifelong dog lover and was never without a four-legged friend. Family and friends remember her as a loyal ally who could always be counted on in a crisis. Mrs. Prince is preceded in death by sister Marian Macpherson Currie, and survived by her brother, Ian Macpherson and sister, Paula Macpherson Watkins; three children; Sydney Rhodes Prince, IV, John Ritchie Macpherson Prince (Laura Berg) and Beverly Anne Prince (Bethay); Grandchildren Barry Lane Bethay, Jr., Benjamin Jacob Bethay; John Ritchie Macpherson Prince, Jr, and Sydney Clare Prince. A private memorial Mass will be held Friday, November 10, 2023, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those interested donate to The Haven in Fairhope.
