Anne Peele DeLorme Nix was born August 14, 1939 in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the wife of James P. Nix, Sr. She is survived by her children, Vicky Nix Cook (Mike) of Fairhope, Phil Nix. (Molly) of Fairhope and Susan Nix Tillman (Gene) of Fairhope. Her grandchildren are Amber Clukey (Buck), Hailey Gulledge (Tom), Stacy Hines (Thomas), Rachel Ladd (George), Stephen P. Nix, Sarah Jennings (Chris), Lori Tillman and Darren Tillman (Stephanie). Great grandchildren include Ashleigh Clukey, Drew Clukey, Hunter Clukey, Clayton Ladd, Owen Hines, Mary Charles Griffith and Ella Ladd. Anne was a facilitator, a connector, a person who created change by bringing people together. She was the keeper of phone numbers and contacts and a purveyor of current events. Anne loved politics, showed her patriotism and never met a stranger. She beamed of hometown pride. She enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad-always sharing with people about her fabulous hometown of Fairhope and encouraging others to come visit. Anne Nix was active in her community on the Eastern Shore of Baldwin County. She served as an Ambassador for the City of Fairhope, the place she loved and lived since 1954. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairhope where she served many years on the flower committee. Flowers and arrangements were a natural gift of Anne’s and part of her life. Early in her career, she owned the Nix Florist and Garden Center on the corner of Section Street and Morphy Avenue. She also started the Christmas poinsettia tree in the Fairhope Civic Center lobby and then continued it over at the James P. Nix Center. There she helped with donations to furnish and decorate the center’s cardrooms and social areas. Anne was a also a businesswoman who enjoyed working with people and making special connections for everyone involved to make things better, run smoothly and promote positive cause. As a breast cancer survivor in the early 1990’s, Anne campaigned to raise funds for the American Cancer Society, the University of South Alabama’s Mitchell Cancer Institute in both Mobile and Baldwin County. She served on numerous boards including Thomas Hospital Foundation board and the University of South Alabama Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation. She was involved in getting the University of South Alabama’s Mitchell Cancer Institute’s Satellite Clinic, the Kilborn Clinic, set up in Fairhope for all of Baldwin County residents, including herself. Just recently Anne was touched to learn her neighbors and friends Marcella Franssen and Chris Toney honored her with the naming of the Triage Room. She was involved in her community in a number of ways including her involvement and help with numerous political campaigns over the years, serving on the executive board of the Baldwin County Republican Party, she was a Past-President of the Eastern Shore Cancer Society, board member of the Point Clear Charities, Inc., Past Chairperson of the Bosom Buddies, volunteer counselor for Reach for Recovery and the American Red Cross. She also served on the Grand Summer Ball Committee and was a Past President of the Cotillion Society as well as a Past President of the Knights of Knighties and member of Order of Athena and Maids of Jubilee. Anne was a member of the Eastern Shore Women’s Auxillary, the Fairhope Yacht Club Auxillary, Fairhope Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was Gayfer’s Jubilee Career Club Outstanding Woman of the Year and she received several awards from the American Society for her contributions and support. The family of Anne Nix Peele DeLorme Nix would like for you to donate in lieu of flowers to the First Baptist Church of Fairhope, The American Cancer Society or to the local Jensens Heart of Gold Childhood Cancer Foundation out of Gulf Shores, Alabama. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 12, 2020, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, September 13, 2020, at 2:00 at First Baptist Church, Fairhope. The service will be live-streamed at firstfairhope.org/watch Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
