Ann Yates Miller

Ann Miller, beloved mother and grandmother, and dear friend to so many, passed away peacefully at home on October 13, 2024.

Born in 1937, Ann graduated from Parrish High School in Selma and Goucher College in Maryland. After graduation, Ann moved to Atlanta to work as a scientist for the CDC and later as a buyer for Rich’s Department Store. She met her husband Marc in Atlanta, and they soon married.

In 1965, Ann and Marc returned to Selma to run the chain of family-owned specialty stores, M&F Stores Corporation, which has been operating in Baldwin County since 1927. They opened M&F Casuals in Fairhope in 1973. Their love for the Eastern Shore grew so much that Ann and Marc moved to Point Clear in 1989. 

The Fairhope store expansion in the ‘90’s took on special significance as they developed their brand, and they were proud to be the leaders in revitalizing downtown Fairhope. Ann had an eye for fashion, loved bringing the latest trends to the store, and was always the most put-together person in the room.

Ann and Marc loved to travel, happily returning here after many trips all over the world, making new friends along the way. Ann loved meeting interesting and new people and welcomed them into her home. She adored her many friends in her book club, her lunch groups, bridge and yoga classes.

Ann was an avid believer in charitable work. She served on the Selma School Board and volunteered for the American Red Cross. She served on the FEEF board, continuing to value the importance of education for everyone. Ann was a founding member of Impact 100 Baldwin County, served as the first membership chair, and was so proud when membership exceeded 500, and continues to grow in strength.

Ann is predeceased by her husband, Marc, and her parents Lester Meyer Yates and Esther Belle Maring Yates. She is survived by her daughters Leslie Sax, Carol (Matt) Eberlein and Barbara Levitt. 8 grandchildren: Ben (Janine) Sax, Adam (Sarah) Sax, Rachel (Jed Greenwald) Sax, Maring (Tim Ladd) Eberlein, Sam Eberlein, Miller Eberlein, Sarah (Rob Cairns) Levitt and Nate Levitt. 2 great grandchildren: Zoe and Margot Sax. And her sisters Belle Bear and Blanche (John) Kennelly.

A Memorial Service is planned for Tuesday, October 15th, at 11:00am, at Springhill Avenue Temple, Mobile. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated by the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
