POINT CLEAR, AL James Edwin Pollard, age 83, a native of Winona, MS, and a longtime resident of Point Clear, AL, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010. Mr. Pollard graduated as an Honor Student from Greenville, MS High School in June of 1945.  He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi with a B. B. A. degree; School of Banking of the South at L. S. U. and Trust School of Birmingham Southern.  He was a member of various Civic Clubs having served in official capacity in each.  He was president of Mobile West Rotary Club, Ole Miss Alumni Club and Kappa Sigma Alumni Club.  He was a former Senior Vice President of First National Bank of Mobile and retired as Vice President and Trust Officer of AmSouth Bank.  He was responsible for the expansion from the original seven branches to a total of eighteen branches of First National Bank.  He served as Chairman of the Episcopal School; Vestryman and Senior Warden of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.  He was Treasurer of the diocese of the Central Gulf Coast for five years. Mr. Pollard was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Ridings Pollard, mother, Nell Smith Pollard, and sister, Marjorie Pollard Fleming. He is survived by his wife, Janella Wood Pollard of Point Clear, sons, Vernon Ridings Pollard of Point Clear, James Edwin Pollard II and his wife Starke of Fairhope, grandchildren, James Edwin Pollard III, Oliver Starke Pollard, brother, Robert Lewis Pollard and his wife Mavis of Clinton, MS, brother-in-law, Major General Samuel Ernest Fleming, Jr. of Tupelo, MS, niece, Marcia Fleming Hammett, nephews, Dr. Samuel E. Fleming III and his wife Mary, Stephen M. Fleming and his wife Janice, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. A celebration of life memorial service will be held from St. James Episcopal Church, Friday, December 17, 2010, at 12:00pm. The family will receive friends from 10:30am until service time. The family suggests that memorials be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 860 N. Section Street, Fairhope, AL 36532, www.stjamesfairhope.org , or the charity of your choice.
