DAPHNE, ALGriffith, Robert S., “Scott O'Brien” - Passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 11, 2010, at his home in Daphne, AL, after a long battle with cancer. Born July 6, 1949, in Pensacola, FL, he served with honor in the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, an Army Commendation Medal for heroism, and the Purple Heart. He was a well known radio personality in both Pensacola, FL, and Mobile, AL, beginning his Mobile career in August 1975. His on-air name was Scott O’Brien, and he signed off daily by telling his listeners to “Feed the birds!” He worked at WABB Radio, G100, 95KSJ, News Radio 710, 92ZEW, and Sports Radio 105.5. He also did public address announcing for the University of South Alabama Jaguars basketball and football games, the Senior Bowl, the Mobile Revelers and at Ladd- Peebles Stadium for over 25 years. Scott was involved with numerous local charities and coached little league baseball for 12 years. Scott leaves behind his wife, Paula Pond Griffith, their daughter Lindsey Nicole Griffith (Blake Boswell), their son Robert Alexander Griffith “Alex”, and grandson Aiden Brooks Griffith. He is also survived by two brothers, David Edward Griffith of San Antonio, TX, and Donald John Griffith, “Jack”, (Leslie) of Jacksonville, FL., along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Irene Griffith and a brother, Steve Griffith, all from Pensacola, FL. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 15th, 2010, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne, AL. Funeral services will follow from the funeral home chapel. A private burial will be at Barrancas National Cemetery aboard NAS, Pensacola, FL at a later date.
