Gordon Keenan

FAIRHOPE, AL Mr. Gordon Joseph Keenan, age 81, born June 13th, 1929 in Watertown, N.Y., passed away peacefully, Wednesday, December 1, 2010, lovingly surrounded by family at his side. Longtime resident of Rochester N.Y., Gordon, alumni of Clarkson College, served honorably as a US Naval Engineering Officer on the LST 1163. He worked as a senior engineer for Rochester Gas and Electric Co. for over 30 years. An avid sailor and past Commodore of the Genesee Yacht Club of Rochester, N.Y., he loved sailing his Cape Dori on Lake Ontario for many years. He was an incredibly dedicated husband and dad with a wonderful sense of humor. His family will forever cherish summers at the cottage, ski trips, his love of animals, lunches at the Char-pit, camping at Southwicks Beach, and picnics at the yacht club. Gordon was a resident of Fairhope, AL for the past 13 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joan Heffernan Keenan, four children: Gordon A. Keenan and his wife Ruth, Daniel J. Keenan, Patricia R. Keenan and fiancé Horace Turner, Kathleen E. Klein and husband John, grandchildren: Thomas G. Keenan, Elizabeth A. Keenan, Danielle V. Keenan, Nicola C. Keenan, Rebecca R. and husband Jeff Stewart, Jennifer E. and husband Dan Glies, Briana C. Buttarazzi, Jack S. Buttarazzi, Jason L. Klein, Gregory R. Klein, three great grandchildren: Brenna R. Stewart, Aiden G. Stewart, and Addison M. Glies. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope, AL on Monday, December 6, 2010 at 12:00 pm.
