Sam W. "Wally" Covert

FAIRHOPE   Sam W. “Wally” Covert, Sr., age 83, a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Fairhope passed away at his home, Monday, October 18, 2010, after a short illness.   Mr. Covert was a veteran of World War II and served in the Merchant Marines delivering war material to the allies prior to reaching the age to be inducted into the Army.  He worked a total of 44 years with the Mobile Press Register, retiring in 1995 as Press Room Foreman.  He was a longtime member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Mobile and later at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope.   He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Desmond Covert, sons, Sam Covert, Jr., and his wife Debbie, J. Doug Covert and his wife Belinda, Clifford W. Covert and his wife Glenda, daughter, Theresa A. Covert, eleven grandchildren, Ashley, Erin, Natalie, Clay, Chrissy, Amber, Dana, Amy, Lesley, Brittany, Caleb, nine great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.   Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at 11:00 am.
