FAIRHOPE , AL Major James Kious Carvey, USAF, RET, age 92, of Fairhope , AL , passed away Friday, October 15, 2010. James was born on December 17, 1917, in Columbus , OH . He graduated from North High School and received his Bachelor of Science from Ohio State University where he also taught ROTC. Having proudly served in the US Air Force and participating in the Berlin Airlift as USAF Command Pilot, he accumulated over 10,000 hours of flying time in the B52’s and B29’s during World War II. During his 24 year career, he was a Flight Instructor, Examiner, and Medical Air Evacuation Pilot, as well as a Squadron Commander and Assistant Chief of Flight Standardization 10 th Air Force. He was also a member of Sons of the American Revolution, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus (32 nd Degree Mason). He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel T. Carvey, Ruth K. Carstarphen, and brother, H. Paul. Survivors include his loving wife Jean S. of 62 years, Sons, James Kent Carvey ( Elizabeth ) Newark , OH, Craig Lewis Carvey of Columbus , OH , Daughters, Karen R. Kendrew (Eric) of Riverview , FL , Janet C. Morris (Robert) of Washington C.H., OH, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
