Paul Daniel Flournoy

FAIRHOPE , AL Paul Daniel Flournoy, born in Mobile , Alabama , on April 24, 1977, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2010, in Fairhope.  He was 33 years old. A memorial celebration to honor his life will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at 1:00 pm at Five Rivers Delta Resource Center , Spanish Fort, Alabama , with Pastor Susan Berent officiating. He is survived by his wife, Taylor Michael Flournoy of Fairhope; mother, Liisa J. Flournoy of Fairhope; father, James D. Flournoy of Gulf Shores, Alabama; stepmother, Debra Evans of Gulf Shores, Alabama; grandfather, Paul Jackson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; uncles, Daniel B. Flournoy of Hollywood, California, and Andrew C. Jackson of Seagrove Beach, Florida; aunt, Susan J. Blankenship of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and numerous other relatives and dear friends.   Paul’s love of animals and nature led him to pursue a degree in biology at Auburn University , where he graduated cum laude in 2002.  While at Auburn he worked as a volunteer at the Southeastern Raptor Center helping to rehabilitate injured birds of prey and return them to their natural habitats.  After graduation, he followed his passion for animals through professional work as a wildlife biologist by participating in research studies involving the spotted owl and big horn sheep in Oregon and the California condor in Arizona .  He later began graduate studies at Ohio State University , where he was engaged in research regarding the river otter. Paul is remembered as a kind and loving young man with a gentle soul.  Spending time with family and friends and sharing old memories while making new ones were special occasions for Paul.  These times brought out his sweet smile and made those around him feel loved.
