CURREN John Davis Curren, age 71, a native of Detroit, Michigan, passed away on July 30, 2010 in Daphne, Alabama. A graduate of Michigan State University and a member of the United States Marine Corps, he enjoyed a lifelong career in the steel industry and was a proud member of the Michigan Harness Horsemen's Association. John was known for his playful nature and vivid storytelling. Loved ones will never forget his colorful renditions of songs such as “Dead Skunk” or joining him on impromptu “day trips” through the back roads near his Northfield Township farm. John enjoyed relaxing on the porch of his farm house, keeping an eye on his beloved dogs and horses. Even in failing health, John remained a source of strength to his family and continued to make everyone around him laugh. John will be missed by his longtime companion, Shari Shoha; four daughters, Betsy Leavitt, Susan Gribben, Jenny Curren, and Mary Curren; five grandchildren, John Patrick and Charles Gribben and Lee, Roch, and Allie Leavitt; his sister, Mary Beth Rinaldi and her husband Jerry; two nephews, Chuck and Dave Clark; his son-in-law Mark Gribben; close friends Paula Mace and Steve and Nicole Novak; and Shari's children Michael Shoha and Lindsey Dunn.
