SPANISH FORT QUENTIN PAUL GUENTHER, SR. was born on October 30, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois. He died on May 19, 2010 in a local health care facility. He was the son of Marie Elizabeth Guenther and Paul Otto Heinrich Guenther. He moved to Foley, Alabama as a young boy. Quentin never missed a day of school and was Valedictorian of his senior class. Soon after entering the University of Alabama, he was called to serve his country in World War II. After serving his country, Quentin returned to the University of Alabama, graduating with a degree in Chemistry. He worked at Beaunit Paper Mill in Sylacauga, Alabama where two of his three children were born. In 1962 he moved to Spanish Fort, Alabama and became employed with Scott Paper Company in Mobile, Alabama as an environmental and analytical Chemist. He worked there until his retirement in 1989. Quentin was a charter member of Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church. During his membership there he served as Deacon, Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Sunday School Teacher and sang in the choir for over 50 years. He was an avid University of Alabama football fan and enjoyed reading, history, science, and making homemade root beer and pickles. Quentin loved children and animals and was young at heart to the end. He was a very honest man and displayed a quiet faith. He was a wonderful husband and father. Quentin is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Margaret Mary Byrd Guenther and three children: Martha Virginia (Ginger) Guenther, Quentin Paul Guenther, Jr. (Debbie), John Allan Guenther (B. J.), grandchildren Courtney and Kristen Guenther and feline buddy, Schatzi. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. from the Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church with a family graveside service to follow at Pine Crest Cemetery. Officiating at the service will be Dr. Julian Walthall. Pallbearers will be Wade Reeves, Joe Bonner, Chuck Lake, Joe Davis, Bill Burdick and Ted Donley. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church or your favorite charity.
