FAIRHOPE Norma Corinne Matthews, 87, Fairhope, entered into Christ’s eternal kingdom on Friday, April 02, 2010 at Thomas Hospital, after suffering a stroke. A Memorial service will be 2:30PM, Saturday, April 17, at Ascension Lutheran Church, interment in Fernwood Cemetery, Lockbourne, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, building fund, 8888 County Road 64, Daphne, AL. 36526, in loving memory of Norma. Norma was born November 08, 1922 in Louisville, Kentucky to Dr. Horace C. Pirtle and Lilly M. (Rahn) Pirtle. Her family then moved to St. Petersburg, FL where she graduated from high school. Norma played professional softball for the R. H. Hall team as the star pitcher and was a competitive roller skater. She served the body of Christ in all of her local congregations in many capacities. Her fond memories were serving at Prince of Peace as secretary, singing in the choir, and it was said of her, she was the outstanding ambassador for recruiting new choir members. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Horace C and Lilly (Rahn) Pirtle; husband’s, Aden D. Ellett and Eugene R. Matthews, brother, Daniel C. Pirtle; sister-in-law, Marion A. Pirtle. She is survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Laverne R. and Marie M. Matthews of Fairhope and many cherished and loving friends. Norma’s life was richly blessed by her family and her many friends. She cherished life and lived life to the fullest.
