Leander Charles Birk

GULF SHORES Leander Charles Birk, age 82, a native of Minneapolis, MN, and a resident of Gulf Shores, AL, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010. In 1946 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and was a veteran of the Korean War. Lee retired after 34 years, from the Insurance Division of General Motors. He was a member of Our Lady Of The Gulf Catholic Church, where he was on the parrish counsel. Lee truly enjoyed serving the church community. He cherished the friendships over the years and is thankful for all of the love, caring and support over the past several months during his illness. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was instrumental with the implementation of the monument to the Unborn Child. He is survived by his wife, Katie Birk of Gulf Shores, AL; sons, Thomas Birk of Gulf Shores, AL, and Michael (Kathy) Birk of Indianapolis, IN; daughter, Patricia (Edward) Powers of Lisle, IL; grandchildren, Tim and Jennifer Powers and Nicholas and Christopher Birk; brother, Clarence (Caroline) Birk of Minneapolis, MN. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 15, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady Of The Gulf Catholic Church, Gulf Shores, AL.
