GULF SHORES Richard Elias Libby, age 83, a native of Bridgton, ME, and a resident of Gulf Shores, AL, passed away Monday, March 1, 2010. Mr. Libby was a retired executive from Yellow Freight. His early career was as a pitcher in Triple A professional baseball. His baseball career was interrupted by his service as a U.S. Marine in the Pacific in World War II. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gulf Shores. Prior to his extended illness he was an avid golfer and a member at The Golf Club of the Wharf. Mr. Libby was preceded in death by his grandson, Bobby Eckert. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Emily J. Libby of Gulf Shores, AL; two sons and spouses, Phil & Marlise Libby of Bridgton, ME, and Budd & Renee Libby of Atlanta, GA; his daughter and spouse, Cindy and Bob Eckert of Brownstown, PA; brother, Bob Libby of Maine; three sisters, Esther Kilborn, Phyllis Shaw and Dorothy Osgood, all of Maine; and one granddaughter, Jill Ashley Libby of Boston, MA. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 5, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Gulf Shores. Burial will take place at a later date at the Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made in his honor to Community Hospice of Baldwin County, 2770 So.
