DAPHNE,AL Mrs. Linda Lee Verzone Goff Walker, a native of Mobile County, and a resident of Baldwin County since 1987, died Saturday February 27, 2010. Mrs. Walker was a Murphy High School graduate , attended William Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS, and received her B.A. degree from Mobile College. She Received her Masters in social work from the University Of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS, .Mrs. Walker Retired from the Alabama Department Of Public Health , Areas 7 and 9 , as Area social worker Director. She also worked with the Alabama Department Of Health as the state social work Consultant, Bureau Home and Community Services, served as the Director of the office of social work for the Mobile County Health Department, worked for the Department of Human Resources in Mobile County, and opened Penelope House as its first Executive Director. Served as an adjunct faculty member for Springhill College, and the University of South Alabama. Mrs. Walker belonged to many social work organizations and served on the board of directors for many related social service organizations. She was a member of Alpha Delta Mu, National Social Honor Society. In 1984 she was the recipient of the Social Worker The Year Award for the Mobile Unit of the National Association Of Social Work. In 1981 she received the Gayfer's Career Woman Of The Year Award and in 2003, shortly after her retirement from the ADPH, she was honored with the Virginia Kendrick State Award. Mrs. Walker was a member of the Order Of Eastern Star and Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church, She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Mary Lee Hall Verzone, her brother, Williard Verzone. Mrs. Walker is survived by her loving and caring husband , Shelton Edward Walker of Daphne, AL, Son , William Edward Goff Jr. ( Bill) of Mobile, AL, two step-sons, David Walker of Ft. Worth, TX, Shelton Eugene Walker of Jacksonville,AL, two grandchildren, William Edward Goff III ( Trey) , and Savannah Elise Goff of Mobile, AL, a brother, Frederick Felix Verzone ( Susan) Valrico, FL, two other siblings, four step-daughters, Sherry Breummer, Sondra Taylor, Debbie Palmer, Donna Mills, all of Mobile, AL, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday , March 2, 2010 at 11:am. Burial will be in Jubilee Memorial Gardens, Daphne ,Al. The family will receive friends at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home on Monday, March 1, 2010,from 6-8 PM.
