Edward Nelson Lambremont, Jr. He was born in New Orleans, LA, 29 July 1928. He passed away at University of South Alabama Hospital, in Mobile, AL, on March 15, 2017. He was raised in his birth city, was a graduate of Jesuit High School, and received two degrees in science from Tulane University in 1949 and 1951. Following service in Korea with the U. S. Army, he attended Ohio State University and completed the PhD degree in entomology and biochemistry in 1958. He was a research entomologist stationed at Louisiana State University from 1958 to 1965 when he then joined the faculty of the University’s Nuclear Science Center as an associate professor and staff biologist. He was responsible for academic and research investigations into the biomedical applications of nuclear science. He became the Center Director and professor in 1979, a position he held until retirement in 1998. He was a member of several scientific societies including the American Entomological Society, the Deep South Chapter of the American Nuclear Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Oil Chemists Society, among others. He was a full member and served on the Board of Directors of Sigma Xi, the International Honor Society of Science. He also served on the Board of Directors of Oak Ridge Associated Universities where he held a position of visiting scientist at their medical division Biological Chemistry Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN. He later was awarded a position as Visiting Scientist with the Entomology Laboratory of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria. He was a consultant in several corporations specializing in nuclear applications to science and industry, radiological analysis of water and food stuffs, radiation safety and education. These included Gulf States Utilities, River Bend nuclear Power Plant, Fleischmans Laboratories, the Nuclear Energy Institute and the American Council on Education, among others. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve and retired at the rank of Colonel in 1984. Preceded in death by his parents Edward N. and Carrie J. Lambremont, two sisters, Doris Lambremont Jackson of New Orleans, and Marie Louise Martin of Cambridge, MA, and by his wife Jane Annis Lambremont of Baton Rouge and Mary Chris Lambremont of Clinton, TN. Survived by wife Janice Parker Lambremont and his children Carol L. Smith and husband Walter, John B. Lambremont and wife Nhu-Y, and Barbara L. Peters and husband Warren of Baton Rouge and Suzanne G. Lambremont and husband Rob Jessen of Beaumont, TX; stepchildren Kitzie Major and husband Dylan, Ean Savoy and wife Katie. Grandchildren John Lambremont, Jr., Brad Smith and wife Haylie, Paul Lambremont, Sarah Lambremont and fiancé Ares Christakis, Matt Smith and wife Leah, Lauren Peters and fiancé Josh Mitchell, Lewis Peters II, and Elizabeth Call. Great grandchildren Bradford Smith II, Collin Smith, Ally Smith, Corynn Major and Elliot Savoy. Ned and Janice Lambremont relocated to Fairhope, AL in 2000 where they together enjoyed life to the fullest on Mobile Bay’s Eastern Shore. Pallbearers are Dr. Lambremont’s grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Lamy Chopin and Roger Melancon. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 20, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Alabama State Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Spanish Fort.
