DAPHNE, ALHelen Trione Callaway, a resident of William F. Green Veterans Home passed away February 27, 2017.She is predeceased by her husband Bobby Callaway and by her son, David Callaway.Survivors include her son, Butch and his wife Virlinda of Daphne and David’s wife Melissa and grandchildren Caitlyn, Dylan, and Nathan of Daphne and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.She was dedicated to her faith, her family, her friends, and to her community. Born on September 6, 1923 to Angelo and Alvira Manci Trione, she was the granddaughter of Dominic and Theresa Trione and Frank and Carmilla Manci. After graduating Fairhope High School in 1942, she worked at Brookley Field. At age 20, she enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Womens’ Reserve. She was one of the 1st 82 girls to serve on foreign soil (Hawaii) for the Marine Corps. She worked in the Daphne Post Office 28 years, retiring in 1977.Through the years she served as chairman of the Daphne May Day Association’s coronation, on Daphne Recreation Board to secure funds to build the Nicholson Center debt free, co-founded the Old Methodist Church Museum, volunteered with SEEDS and was a chairman of the Mama Mia Cook off. Also, she was a member of the “Bay Babes” Red Hat Society.She was an active member of Christ the King Church as part of the Serra Club, “Why Catholic” group and spent 60 years volunteering with Catholic Charities. She held many offices in the Ladies’ Sodality including president, was president of the Archdiocese Council of Catholic Women, and chairman of the Christ the King bereavement committee. She was co-founder of the Thrift Shop in Robertsdale, sponsored by the Baldwin Deanery of Catholic Women and served as board member of Catholic Social Services of Mobile. She worked many holidays with the homebound families of her church community. She was honored by Pope Paul II for her charitable works with the Papal certificate “Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice”, a gold medal and the title of “Lady Helen”.Visitation will be on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne. Rosary will be at 6:00 PM.A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne. Interment will follow in Belforest Catholic Cemetery.In lieu of flowers: Memorials to Christ the King School or Church.
