DAPHNE Robert Van Zandbergen, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, 23 November while under hospice care at Eastern Shore Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Daphne, AL. Robert was born in Sanborn, IA on February 13, 1933, the son of Otto and Jennie Van Zandbergen. He was a graduate of Central High School in Sioux City, IA and graduated from Iowa State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry. He was a Veteran of the US Army, having served from 1953-1955. On July 25th, 1959 he married Carolyn Neal; together having three children. Robert was employed in Tomahawk, WI by Owens-Illinois from 1959 to 1988, then Great Northern Nekoosa Papers until his retirement in 1990. During this time, he was active in state forestry organizations serving as Chairman of the Wisconsin Tree Farm Committee, Chairman of the Forest Practices Committee of the Wisconsin Paper Council. After his retirement he enjoyed his favorite pastime of golf while spending his summers at his lake home in Tomahawk, WI, and attending the fall opener of pheasant hunting season in South Dakota before heading to Daphne, AL for the winter. Robert is survived by his wife, Carolyn, three sons Bart of Hartford, WI, Brad (Wendy) of Durant, OK, and Brent (Tiffany) of Mobile, AL. Brothers Kenneth (Betty) and Ronald (Joyce), both of Omaha, NE. He is further survived by one granddaughter, Addison. Robert is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Janelle Steele and Sylvia Krohne. The Funeral Service for Robert Van Zandbergen will take place at 2 PM on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the Daphne Chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Homes. Brother Mike Bedford of College Park Baptist Church will officiate. Visitation will be held the same day at 1 PM until the time of service.
