FAIRHOPE, AL Lyman Waldo Phillips, Jr., 85, died Wednesday, November 16, 2016, following an extended illness. Phil was born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 20, 1931. Phil, his wife, Anne, and their children lived in Brewton, Alabama, where he was very active in the First United Methodist Church, the Red Cross, the Boy Scouts, and the Brewton Arts Council. He was a sales and purchasing agent at Container Corporation of America. Prior to moving to Brewton, Phil served in active military service at Fort Myers, Virginia. Phil moved to Montgomery, Alabama where he married Gail Goldsmith Golson, and they then moved to Destin, Florida. While in Destin, he was a member of the Destin United Methodist Church and Active Retired Men of Destin. He enjoyed all aspects that Destin had to offer. He also enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking the harbor and playing with his grandchildren. He and his wife later moved to Fairhope, Alabama, where Phil was an active member of the Fairhope United Methodist Church, where he attended the Friends In Faith Sunday school class. He dearly loved his family, friends, church family, Destin, Florida, sailing, and Alabama football. Phil was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Miller Phillips, daughter, Susan Phillips, grandsons, Matthew Albert Tucker and William Perry Singleton. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Gail Golson Phillips, sons, Allen C. (DeeDee) Phillips, Destin, Florida, Jack Parmer (Kim) Golson, Jr., Mathews, Alabama, daughters, Lisa Golson (William) Singleton, Greenville, Alabama, Carla Golson (Lee) St. Peter, Destin, Florida, and brother, Daniel A. (Diana) Phillips, Bourne, Massachusetts. He is also survived by grandchildren, Allen Miller (Laurie) Phillips, Ashley Phillips (Brendan) McMahon, Brittany Singleton (Phillip) Weaver, Jack Parmer Golson III, Abigail St. Peter, and great-grandson, William Miller Phillips; sister-in-law, Glenda Goldsmith Courtney of Niceville, FL;numerous nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, November 21, 2016 at 3:00pm at Fairhope United Methodist Church, 155 South Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, with visitation immediately following in the Christian Life Center with Dr. Ed Glaize and Dr. Ann Pearson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Columbarium Fund at Fairhope United Methodist Church, 155 South Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532 or a charity of your choice.
