FAIRHOPE, AL Sue Driscoll, age 78, died peacefully at her home on Monday, November 7th, 2016, in Fairhope, Alabama, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Sue was born on March 28th, 1938 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Paul and Kathryn Tatum. Sue grew up in Texas, along with her older brother Bob Tatum. She enjoyed going to dances with her friends, cooking with her mom, and gardening with her grandmother. As a young woman, Sue wanted nothing more than to have a large family. She married, and began a family of her own; which included 5 children; Debbie, Emery, Paul, Chris and Audra. In addition to her own children, she frequently opened her home to foster children, offering that she “always had more love to give”. Sue’s family was the center of her life, she was a devoted mother. She continued to enjoy creating lovely gardens, and always had a sweet dog or cat at her side. Unfortunately, Sue and her family sustained a tragic loss of the oldest son, Emery, at age 17; in an accident, Sue later lost her second son, Paul, from an illness. She was strong and carried on, treasuring her daughters, and their families. Later in life, Sue met a wonderful man, John Daniel (Dan) Driscoll of Fairhope Al. The couple fell deeply in love, married in 2004, and started a life together in their new home in Quail Creek. Sue and Dan laughed often and loved each other dearly. They built beautiful gardens around their home together, and frequently entertained neighbors, friends and family. The couple spent the last joyous decade of Sue’s life together. Sue is survived by her husband Dan, and the couple’s combined families who include; Dan’s children: John, his wife Fanny, and Sharon Driscoll; all of Fairhope. Sue’s children: Debbie, her husband Graham Logan, of North Carolina; Chris and her husband Paul Altermatt of Fairhope, and Audra Whigham of Enterprise Al. Sue dearly loved her 11 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Fairhope, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Alabama. Sue Driscoll celebrated a lovely life - she nurtured a large, loving family, adored her pets, and tended her beautiful gardens; may she rest in peace.
