SPANISH FORT, ALHomer Stanley Norris; 93, died on Monday, October, 31, 2016 at Westminster Village in Spanish Fort, AL. Stan was born on March 18, 1923 in Erwin, TN to the late Charles Thomas Norris and Addie Mae Johnson Norris. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ed, Earl and Charles, sister, Love Tinker, and his wife of 61 years, Edna Louise Harrison Norris. He is survived and blessed by his children, Robert (Bob) Norris (Mascot, TN); Dr. William (Bill) Norris and wife, Jennifer McClain Norris (Fairhope, AL); Jean Yeager and husband, Martin (Houston, TX). He is survived by ten grandchildren, Kerri Norris; Michael Norris and wife, Rachael (Knoxville, TN); Thomas Norris and wife, Ashley (Birmingham, AL); Frank Norris (Montgomery, AL); John Norris (New Orleans, LA); Afan Swan; Walt Swan (Fairhope, AL); Harrison Yeager; Barrett Yeager (Austin, TX); Lawson Yeager (San Antonio, TX); three great-grandchildren, Harrison Norris, Barrett Norris and Rowan Norris; and several nieces and nephews. Stan was a living miracle! Besides beating three different cancers, he survived at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked, completed 30 missions in the Pacific seeing action at Guadalcanal and Bougainville, was shot down over Germany, was a POW for ten months, and then forced to leave camp and march to keep away from the Russian army. A book was written called The Erwin Nine which documented the World War II POW experiences of Stan and eight other Erwin, TN prisoners who were being held at the same camp, Stalag Luft 4. Upon returning to the states in September, 1945, Stan enrolled at the University of Tennessee and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. There he met the love of his life, Edna, married, and raised three children. He worked for Dupont most of his life, transferring to several states throughout his employment, spending the longest time in Columbia, TN where he retired. In 2004, Stan and Edna moved to Alabama to Westminster Village Retirement & Assisted Living facility. Stan loved his friends, loved his golf, loved his family and loved his UT Volunteers! A private family service officiated by Dr. Bob Stauffacher will be held at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope, AL on Saturday, November 5, 2016.
