DAPHNE, AL Clyde Paul Ussery, age 95, a resident of Daphne, AL, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016. He was a graduate of West End High School, Birmingham, AL and attended the Alabama Polytechnic Institute before it was named Auburn University from 1939 – 1943. He completed his Navy Indoctrination at Princeton University, where he met Dr. Albert Einstein. He was later stationed at Navy Shipyard, Portsmouth, VA, where he met his late wife. After leaving the Navy, he worked for Alabama Power Company for 42 years, then moved to Daphne after his retirement. He enjoyed music and woodworking and was an avid Auburn fan. He was honored as a “Golden Eagle” Alumnus for Auburn University. He was a Lutheran all of his life and held many positions in church leadership. He is preceded in death by his wife, Grace J. Ussery of 69 years. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon A. Hulon of Fairhope; son, Marvin P. Ussery (Sally) of Daphne; grandchildren, Heidi Lynn Hulon of Louisville, KY, Brian Scott Hulon (Stephanie) of Mobile, and Amy Elizabeth Bartimus (Mike) of Daphne; great grandchildren, Spencer Joseph Shipman and Evan Chandler Shipman of Louisville, KY, Noah Thomas Byrd and Harrison Paul Byrd of Daphne, and Lillian Grace Hulon of Mobile; sister, Theolene Millen of Roanoke, VA.; many other loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church, Daphne, Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of service. Graveside services and interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the Alabama State Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Spanish Fort. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, 8888 Co.
