Allen Roberts Thayer

FAIRHOPE, AL U.S. Army retired Lieutenant Colonel Allen Roberts Thayer of Fairhope, Alabama (formerly of Atlanta) died at home on July 8, 2016 at the age of 79. Born at Station Army Hospital, Fort Benning, GA on October 20, 1936 to U.S. Army Captain Allen Thayer and Marjorie Roberts Thayer. Proceeded in death by his brother U.S. Army Second Lieutenant David Chaffee Thayer and grandson Samuel Weeks Thayer. Allen is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra Grey Thayer, of Fairhope, Alabama. Children: Sally Thayer Geiger (U.S. Army Colonel William Anthony Geiger) of Fairhope Alabama , Allen Benjamin Thayer (Edward Kalil Amoon) of Charlotte, North Carolina , and Samuel Chaffee Thayer (Penelope Slaughter Thayer) of Fort Mill, South Carolina. Grand children: William Anthony Geiger Jr., Margaret Louise Geiger of Fairhope, Alabama, Abigail Diane Thayer, Samuel Allen Thayer of Fort Mill, South Carolina. Brother: John Phillip Thayer (Pamela Watson Thayer) of Columbus, Georgia. Other: large extended family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint James Episcopal Church, 860 N Section Street Fairhope, AL 36532 251-928-2912. Visitation will begin at 10:00 until time of service. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorials be made to Community Hospice of Baldwin County (www.communityhospiceal.org/donate.)
