Beverly Brennan Alexander passed away peacefully on June 2, 2016 in Fairhope, Alabama at the age of 92. Beverly was born on November 17, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, to Burnett and Lillian Brennan. She graduated from Barnard College in New York City in 1945 and later earned a Master’s degree in education from Mississippi College. For over 30 years, she was an elementary school teacher, and retired from the Jackson Public School System in 1986 to spend more time with her grandchildren. A lifelong communicant of St. Columb’s Episcopal Church, Beverly was very active in her church serving on the altar guild and volunteering at the Iona House. Beverly had been recognized as a fifty year member of the The Order of the Daughters of the King® Her volunteer work also included serving as a Docent at the Jackson Zoo for 20 years and also at the Museum of Natural Science in Jackson. Beverly is survived by her children, Owens F. Alexander, Jr. (Emily) of Oxford, Mississippi; Robin Baskin Gibson, (Barry) of Fairhope, Alabama, daughter-in-law Vera Alexander of Madison, Mississippi, grandchildren; Jarrod Alexander (Anna), Carlsbad, California, Brennan Alexander (Stacy), Ridgeland, Mississippi, Robert Daniel Alexander, Austin, Texas, Brad Baskin (Leslie), Jackson, Mississippi; and her loyal companion, Australian Shepard, Nicholas. She was preceded in death by a son Douglas Alexander (Vera) and son-in-law Kurt Baskin (Robin). A Memorial Service will be held at 11am, Saturday, June 11, 2016, at St Columb’s Episcopal Church, 550 Sunnybrook Road, Ridgeland, Mississippi, with a reception to follow at the church. All friends are welcome to attend and celebrate Beverly’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Beverly be made to St. Columb’s Episcopal Church or the Jackson Zoological Society.
