David Mauritson

It is with heavy hearts that the family of David Richard MAURITSON, MD, JD (67) report that he died on February 1st 2016.  Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1948, David attended Westminster College, Harvard Medical School, and the Birmingham School of Law.  He was a board-certified cardiologist who founded Cardiology Associates of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa and was in practice for over 40 years.  He also practiced law in Alabama for 7 years.  Dr. Mauritson was an avid pilot and flight instructor who volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member and past National President of the Flying Physicians Association.  He was also a member of the National Association of Flight Instructors and an official with the United States Tennis Association, among many other professional and civic organizations.  He was a volunteer pilot for South Wings and Mercy Flight Southeast. He played the trumpet and baritone with the Baldwin Pops Band, and volunteered at the Alabama Free Clinic.  David was also a member of the Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship. David is survived by his wife of 42 years, Eleanora Mauritson, his sister Barbara (Dick) Brown of Rowlett, TX, and his brother James L. Mauritson of Oklahoma City, OK. He is also survived by his two adult children, Amy E. Mauritson, MD of Memphis, TN, Eric B. Mauritson of Tampa, FL, his daughter-in-law Lydia (Eric) Mauritson, and his two grandchildren Luke David Mauritson (4) and Audrey Eleanor Mauritson (1).  David is preceded in death by his father Donald F. Mauritson, his mother Janet E. Mauritson, and his sister Nancy Mauritson.  A memorial service will be held at Fairhope Christian Church on Saturday, February 6th at 1:30pm, with time for fellowship immediately following.
