Charles "Charlie" Amsie Wilder

GULF SHORES Charles Amsie Wilder, Sr.,, age 87, a resident of Gulf Shores, Alabama, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2015 shortly after sunrise at his home of 27 years on Bon Secour Bay, after contracting a water marine bacterial infection in July. He was born to Otis H. Wilder, Sr. and Lelia Bell Brown Wilder in Zama, Mississippi on February 4, 1928. After graduating from the University of Alabama in 1951 with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, he joined the Army Corp of Engineers and served in the Philippine Islands during the Korean War. He met the love of his life, Susie M. Waters of Gateswood, Alabama and they were married on November 16, 1953. He served as Project Engineering and Construction Manager on many large projects that produced many new household products – Crest, Charmin Tissue, Puffs, Bounty, Dawn and many more. Late in his long career he was appointed World Construction Manager and that took him to 26 Countries. He was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Charles “Chuck” A. Wilder, Jr.; his older sister, Hazel Dare Wilder Sloan and his brother, Otis H. Wilder, Jr. Charlie is survived by Susie M. Wilder, his loving wife of 62 years, and their daughter, Debra Suzanne Reep, age 61. He is mourned by numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, many dear and wonderful friends. Charlie loved his family, his friends, a good joke, the beauty of life, fishing for mullet and trout, and writing songs and poems. He was a sports enthusiast – passionate about playing tennis and a huge University of Alabama fan. After World War II, he kick-started the University’s men’s tennis program. The family will receive friends at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley, Alabama on Thursday, October 29, 2015 from 10:00-11:00 a.m., with a Memorial Service immediately following at the Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home.
