David Atkinson, Jr

David Chester (Big Dave) Atkinson, Jr. age 84, a resident of Fairhope and Montevallo, AL., passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015. David was a graduate of West End High School, a distinguished member of the United States Army as a Master Sergeant in Korean Conflict where he received the Bronze Star. Graduated in 1961 from Auburn University, Salesman for Sinclair/ARCO for numerous years in the South East Region, Sales Manager for Gaston Motor Company in Fairhope, AL., Lifetime member of Fairhope Yacht Club, served as Commodore of Fairhope Power Squadron, Lifetime Member of VFW, Elks Lodge and American Legion. Preceded in death by his father, David Chester Atkinson Sr., mother; Ola Mae (Stroud) Atkinson. Survivors include his children Denise Atkinson (Lex) Legate of Birmingham, AL., Danon Catherine Atkinson of Fairhope, AL., and Daniel Cono  Atkinson of Montevallo, AL., three grandchildren Derek Slade (Natalya) Barnes, Rachael Thomas (Zachary) Wallace of Birmingham, AL., and Nicholas David Atkinson of Anaheim, CA., two great grandchildren Michel Drayton Barnes of Gaston, AL., and Stella Marie Barnes of Birmingham, AL., many other family and friends.Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 2:45 pm at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.  Cemetery is located on Hwy 119 in Montevallo, AL. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to a Charity of your choice or Wounded Warrior Project, (woundedwarriorproject.org).
