SPANISH FORT Gertrude Holmes Penton, age 102, a native of Wisconsin and a life long resident of Spanish Fort, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015. She was an artist, taught, and participated in many Art organizations, and was a member of Spanish Fort United Methodist Church for over forty-five years. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents: Barbara and Oliver Anderson; her children: Oliver W. George and Eddie Holmes; her brother-in-law: Fred B. Reed; and nephew: Timothy P. Reed. Gertrude was survived by her 3 grandchildren: Beau (Anne) Holmes of Montgomery, Aimee (Rob) Stone of Birmingham, Michael (Patty) Holmes of Mobile; great-grandchildren: Will Holmes, Virginia Anne Holmes, Robert Stone, Olivia Stone, Olivia Holmes, Joshua Holmes; sister: Kathryn Anderson Reed of Spanish Fort; nephew: Mark B. Reed (Janice Donaghey) of Daphne and his children: Jillian Elizabeth Reed of New York, NY., Kathryn Reed (Ryan) Bowman of Niceville, FL., Anderson Lee Reed of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.; Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 9:30 AM at Spanish Fort United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 9:00-9:30 AM at the church. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 AM at Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Gertrude’s family request memorials be made to the Spanish Fort United Methodist Church -6530 Spanish Fort Blvd. Suite D – Spanish Fort, Alabama 36527.
