Born in Birmingham, Alabama, February 22, 1934. At age 81 on August 16, 2015 she went to be with Jesus from their home in Fairhope, Alabama. Dearly missed by her husband of 58 years, Richard J. (Dick) Scott, Jr., daughter Leigh Ann (Scott) Odom & husband Jack Odom, grandchildren Sandra, Gabe, Joanna, and Christian of Cumming, GA, daughter Carol (Scott) Thayer & husband Jay Thayer, grandchildren David, Riley, Jordan and Alex of Lebanon, TN, Aubrey (Scott) Roney and husband John Roney, grandchildren Kevin, Brian, Katie, and Sean, of Marietta, GA, one son, Richard J. (Rich) Scott, III and wife Beth Cranford Scott, grandchildren Lindsey and John Carter of Greenwood, IN., sisters Marilyn (Kelly) Simpson & family, Birmingham, AL, and Joyce (Kelly) Armour, & family of Luverne, AL. Nancy graduated from Ensley High School in Birmingham where her singing talents were enjoyed by many at school events. She attended Auburn University and was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She sang with the Auburn Octet, performing at special events. She graduated from the School of Education in 1956, taught third grade in Atlanta, and in 1957 married her Auburn sweetheart, Dick Scott of Montrose, Alabama. Dick’s thirty-five year career with the IBM Corporation found them living in Mobile (where Nancy served as President of the IBM wives’ Club), Tallahassee, FL, Atlanta, GA, and Montrose, Alabama. While a busy homemaker raising four children she developed a special talent and was respected for her skills in cooking and home decorating and design. She was an active member of the Montrose Garden Club. Her relentless passion was her love for Jesus, which she shared with her other great love – her grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, Fairhope. Graveside service will be Wednesday, August 19, at 10:00 a.m. in the Montrose Cemetery, Reverend Don Smith, St. James Episcopal Church, Fairhope, officiating. Pallbearers are family members Jack Odom, Gabe Odom, John Roney, Kevin Roney, Jay Thayer, and David Thayer. Following the ceremony the family will receive friends at the Oliver Cottage in the Montrose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund, Montrose Cemetery, P. O. Box 98, Montrose, AL 36559, for the purpose of beautification and preservation of the historic Montrose Cemetery .
