Linda S. Slate fought a valiant 3 and 1/2 year battle with cancer starting in June of 2012. She passed on to be with her Lord and Savior on August 6th, 2015. She was born in December 1949 to Lucille and Raymond Binkley in Seattle, Washington. It was there that she met and married her surviving husband Robert in 1972 at the Fauntleroy Church while he was a Coast Guard officer. Over the next 15 years they made their home in Monterey CA, New York, and several communities in the Greater Seattle area. For many years she worked in the Ship Repair Contracting Division of NOAA in Seattle. Her two surviving daughters, Lindsey Rawlins of Tacoma WA and Emily Chinal of Loxley AL were born in the early 1980s. Linda became a full-time mom and home maker dedicating her life to raising her girls. In 1997, she and her family moved to Mandeville LA for business interests. Linda enjoyed the process of relocating, because she was able to oversee the construction of their new homes on three occasions. She had the creative ability to look at drawings and fully envision what the finished home would become with her personal touches; a skill that her husband did not possess. Linda was also able to enjoy her passion and mastery of sewing by making formal gowns for her teenage daughters who attended St. Scholastica Academy in Covington LA. They were always proud to attend their various dances, ceremonies, and proms with one-of-a-kind, designer-quality attire that their Mom had put her heart and soul into. In 2005, the family relocated to their current residence in Fairhope AL, where she loved gardening in the long southern growing seasons. Linda remained connected to her family roots by frequently visiting her three surviving bothers in Washington state; Warren, Wayne & Roger Binkley. Just a few weeks ago she vacationed on little-known Guemes Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington where her father had built the existing log cabins at the Guemes Resort in the 1950s. Her family will celebrate her beautiful life with a Memorial Service in Fairhope on Monday, August 10th at the Wolfe-Bayview Chapel. Visitation will be at 1:00pm with a service to follow at 2:00pm. Arrangements for a Memorial Service and burial at the Edmonds Memorial Cemetery in Edmonds WA are being handled by Beck’s Funeral Home. For those wishing to send flowers to the Fairhope service, please make arrangements through Zimlich The Florist in Mobile AL.
