Eva Eubanks Engel

ENGEL SUMMERDALE, AL. “Eva” Rae Eubanks Engel, 89 years old, of Summerdale, AL. passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 17, 2015. Eva was born on August 30, 1925 in Vernal, MS., to the late William Shelton Eubanks and Virgie Marie Bond Eubanks. She was preceeded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Edward William Engel, Sr. and also 5 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by sisters, Avis Marie Gibson of Lucedale, MS and Elma “Jean” Halbrunner, also of Lucedale, MS., along with many nieces and nephews. Eva was blessed by five children; Rev. Edward W. (Karon) Engel of Vancleave, MS., Cynthia Engel Barbalich of Summerdale, AL., Col. Gary R. (Jan) Engel of Ellijay, GA., Larry E. (Pam) Engel of Foley, AL., and Kenny J. (Connie) Engel of Fairhope, AL. Eva was blessed to have 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She was also the “host” mother of an American Field Service student to Maria Calderon Garren from Colombia, South America. She was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Foley, AL and also attended Zion Lutheran Church in Silverhill, AL. She was involved in the Lutheran Woman’s Missionary League & Christian Braille Association. She was also a member of the Foley Home Demonstration Club where she was helpful in the beginning of South Baldwin Hospital. She was recognized for many years of service volunteering at South Baldwin Hospital Auxiliary. Her involvement also included Cub Scout Pack 77 of Foley, AL., Foley Band Parents, South Baldwin United Way and was always a loving and caring person to everyone she knew and met. The family would like to thank the staff of Community Hospice, especially her nurse, Becky Timms and also some very loving and compassionate caregivers, Doris Davis, Carolyn Scheon and especially Ramona Brown and her daughter Anna. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in her honor to St. Paul’s Lutheran church @ PO Box 1603 Foley, AL 36535, Camp Dixie Lutheran Outdoor Ministries @ 29711 Josephine Dr. Elberta, AL 36530 or Zion Lutheran Church @ PO box 266 Sliverhill, AL 36576. Funeral service will be held from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Monday, July 20, 2015 at 10:00am.
